Circular Waveguide Rotary Joint
The Circular Waveguide Rotary Joint is a microwave passive component designed for 360° infinite continuous rotation applications. It takes circular waveguide as the core transmission channel, and realizes frictionless, low-loss and high-reliability rotary power feeding through non-contact choke interfaces and precision bearings.
Its fundamental difference from rectangular waveguide rotary joints (Type I / L / U) lies in its dominant transmission modes: circular waveguide TE₁₁ or TM₀₁ modes. Featuring inherent rotational symmetry, it maintains more stable electromagnetic field distribution and smaller VSWR fluctuation during rotation. It serves as the preferred component for radar antenna turntables, satellite on-the-move communication, antenna test turntables and polarization rotation systems.
Structural Modules, Core Parameters and Design Key Points
Rotary Interface: Adopts two-stage or multi-stage λ/4 choke grooves with a non-contact gap of 0.1–0.3 mm, achieving equivalent electrical short circuit without mechanical abrasion.
Rectangular-Circular Transition: Gradual tapered or stepped transition structure completes TE₁₀ ↔ TE₁₁ mode conversion, suppresses spurious modes, with insertion loss controlled within ≤ 0.05 dB.
