Circular Polarized Horn Antenna -Conical Horn Type
By adopting 90° phase shift of orthogonal modes in circular waveguide and rotationally symmetric conical aperture, the antenna achieves high-purity circular polarization and symmetrical beam.
By adopting 90° phase shift of orthogonal modes in circular waveguide and rotationally symmetric conical aperture, the antenna achieves high-purity circular polarization and symmetrical beam. It serves as the preferred structure for narrowband / mid-wideband circularly polarized feed sources and testing antennas in microwave and millimeter-wave bands.
Definition & Core Composition
A circularly polarized conical horn antenna integrates circular waveguide feed, conical horn radiation section and built-in circular polarization phase-shifting structure. It is one of the most classic and compact single-port circularly polarized antennas for microwave and millimeter-wave applications. Featuring an overall circular aperture and rotational symmetry, it delivers highly consistent E-plane and H-plane radiation patterns without section difference, making it inherently suitable for circular polarization performance.
Core Working Principle
Rectangular waveguide at the front end realizes rectangular-to-circular transition and excites linearly polarized dominant TE11 mode in the circular waveguide;
A phase-shifting coupling structure is installed inside the circular waveguide to generate two spatially orthogonal, equal-amplitude linear polarization components with a strict 90° phase difference;
The two orthogonal modes radiate simultaneously through the conical horn aperture and synthesize into standard left-hand or right-hand circular polarization via vector superposition;
The conical horn functions to smoothly expand the beam, optimize aperture phase distribution, suppress sidelobe level and improve aperture efficiency.
