The Rectangular Twist Waveguide, also known as a waveguide twist joint, is a key component for polarization conversion and port matching in microwave/mmWave systems. Its core function is to rotate the polarization of electromagnetic waves while keeping the propagation direction unchanged.
Rectangular Twist Waveguide
I. Core Principle
Function: Rotates the electric field polarization plane of the input TE₁₀ mode by a specified angle (90° is the most common), while maintaining the same direction of propagation.
Mechanism: The waveguide walls are twisted smoothly or stepwise along the axis, allowing the electromagnetic field to follow the rotation continuously, thus achieving polarization steering.
II. Classification (By Structure & Twist Angle)
By Twist Angle
90° Twist Waveguide (Most Common): Full conversion between vertical ↔ horizontal polarization.
45° Twist Waveguide: Rotates polarization diagonally, used for synthesizing circular/oblique polarization.
Custom Angles: Available to meet specific system polarization requirements.
